Mamata Banerjee To Hold Sit-In Protest In Kolkata Against Attack On TMC MP Abhishek (X)
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will on Tuesday hold a sit-in protest at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in Esplanade in connection with alleged post-poll violence and attacks on TMC leaders including, MP Abhishek Banerjee and MP Kalyan Banerjee.
The development comes amid escalating political tensions in West Bengal following alleged attacks on senior TMC leaders, including party MP Abhishek Banerjee and Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee.
The part workers had staged protests across parts of the state on Sunday over the alleged attack on TMC leaders, Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee.
The TMC party has described the incident as a planned attack, however the BJP has rejected the allegations and also claimed that the attack by local residents was there way of expressing ager against the party.
Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed deep shock and anger over the alleged targeted violence against party MPs and condemned what she termed as "absurd and authoritarian conduct".
"The way you assaulted the MP of the second-largest opposition party is shocking. Doctors were called, yet hospitals were allegedly instructed not to provide treatment. What kind of absurd and authoritarian conduct is this?" she asked.
Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee was visiting families affected by post-poll violence in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas, when he was allegedly attacked with bricks, stones and eggs.
On Sunday TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged that he was attacked by BJP workers near Chanditala Police Station in Hooghly district while on his way to submit a deputation regarding post-poll violence.
